Yahoo Mail throws a “message too large” banner at the worst moment, and the reflex is to paste the file into whatever compressor the search engine surfaces first. Yahoo’s ceiling lives in the same class as Gmail’s, so there is no reason to reach for the brutal grayscale Screen crush that a 5 MB course portal demands. A Web path near 96 DPI keeps body copy sharp inside Yahoo’s reader while shedding the export bulk that never needed to travel.
Metadata that only pads the file is discarded, and the JPEG quality is set at 61 rather than something lower because Yahoo previews on ageing Android mail apps expose compression ringing on scanned text. If one pass is not enough, split the document before you crank the quality down and wreck readability.
Yahoo’s failure mode resembles Gmail’s classic ceiling, yet quoted HTML in a long reply chain quietly steals headroom you assumed was free. Leaving a little margin under the gauge is the difference between a clean Send and a second bounce.
